NEWS - NEWS - NEWS:

Defining the Universe

Fort Lauderdale, August 2010:  With the private sector building space ships, and actually preparing to launch, the days of outer space belonging only to government agencies are over. Science Fiction is becoming science fact more and more every day. Who can say how long it will be until we not only have the Universe at our fingertips, but Time, itself, prepared to do our bidding. In his new thought-provoking book, Dealing with G.N. 18824,  author Carlton S. Downing tells a valuable story of beliefs, ideals, and love.

A 20th century man is still around in the 27th century. A 27th century woman, working for her Ph.D. by writing about the 20th century, is interviewing an eyewitness 750 years after the fact. They are sent to a distant planet in another star system with orders to change the people of the new planet or kill them. During the trip, the two discuss 20th century culture for her doctorate.     Read More...

Messing Around!

Fort Lauderdale, June 2010:  Not very long ago young girls were raised to be obedient, long-suffering and, most of all, silent. Times have changed! Since the Sixties woman have become a breed unto themselves, not buying into the traditional hoopla of ‘keeping their place,’ and the world has improved because of their courage. In her first book, Mama Don’t Take No Mess, author Tracie D. Foxx leads us on a merry chase with two free-spirited young ladies, who take on the world and a number of it’s challenges, both benign and dangerous.

The ‘mama’ is Ms. Lola Devinne—a ridiculously rich, beautiful, spicy, and wise woman who knows the ropes and refuses to be tied by them, disrespected, or treated less than she’s worth (millions!). But it is her daughter, Imani Devinne, who is the spirit and heart.     Read More

Deadly Elements

Fort Lauderdale, July 2010:  In this day and age almost anything can be yours. No matter what you may dream of, if you can afford it you’ll find it available somewhere. This, of course, includes improvements to the human body. Breast implants for cosmetic reasons, both reconstructive and for one’s self-esteem, have become the norm. Unfortunately, as author Carlos Meza illustrates in his new book, Silicone, it is not always healthy…in more ways than one.

Millions of women around the world undergo breast implant operations every year. Which of the following statements do you think are true?

A. Breast implants can make you look sexier.

B. Breast implants can cause asphyxiation.

C. Breast implants can save your life.

D. Breast implants can cause a car wreck.

It's all of the above.

Jordan Hamilton is a brilliant immunologist who works at a major teaching hospital in Sacramento, California. When a young woman dies during a routine operation to remove her ruptured breast implants, Jordan realizes that the victim reacted to a deadly element in silicone.  Read More...

The Search Goes On….

Fort Lauderdale, March 2010:  Oprah, Ellen, The View―and the myriad of talk-shows which center their broadcasts around the trials and tribulations of our daily lives―have broached the subject of Love (capital L intended) for good reason. They say it makes the world go ‘round, but Love does much more than that. It confounds, exhilarates, depresses, excites to frenzy, demoralizes and thrills us to distraction. The hunt for Love can consume but it doesn’t stop. In his new book, Looking for Sweet Love, author R.L. Byrd examines one talk-show group’s efforts and one woman’s answer to her quest.    Read More...

In for a Penny, in for a Pound…or Dollar!

Fort Lauderdale, April 2010:  With today’s economic upheaval, brought about by the previous eight years of governmental mismanagement, this book has a definite story to tell. Everyone has their hands in the financial pie – either finger or wrist deep. An engaging satire, author Craig Sullivan’s new book, First State Bank and disTrust of Hinkley County, will have you chuckling as the tale unfolds.

Hinkley County is a small Midwestern town struggling to deal with the strong arm of the federal government. The local bankers, feeling frustration over an unwanted injection of T.A.R.P. funds, draw colorful characters into a criminal plot to defraud the banking system. And the butterfly effects of their antics won’t stop at the city border.    Read More...

Honoring Our Fallen…

Fort Lauderdale, April 2010:  Across the United States, over 500 police officers have been killed on the job since 1999. It’s a horrendous number, but anything less would be horrendous as well. Who were these heroic police officers who gave their lives to serve and protect the citizens of our country? Why did they risk their lives daily, giving their all, and what of their families and their fellow officers…how did they endure the loss? In his new book, Signal 50/48…Killing Atlanta’s Finest, author Harold B. Goldhagen shares with us the stories of one American city’s terrible losses and the aftermath of each. Heartbreaking, yet heartwarming as well….

Taking you to each crime scene, Signal 50/48 is the collected nonfiction accounts of the twenty-eight Atlanta police officers who were intentionally shot and killed in the line of duty going back to 1960.  Read more...

 Passing Love Forward

Fort Lauderdale, May 2010:   It’s not always possible to say what’s on your mind to the people to whom you are closest, as it is far too easy to get tangled in a web of surmises: Will she take it the wrong way? Will he understand I say it only because I love him so? Does she know I’ve already been through this situation? Can he heed these words given my own experience?  Ken Jablonski, author of A Letter of Love: A Gift for Your Loved Ones, believes that writing explanatory letters of your experiences, and providing guidance, is a sure way to reach the people you love with messages from your heart.

“The idea first came to me on 9/11/2001, after I survived that tragedy. I thought, if I had died on that day, what would my daughters remember about me? How can I offer advice on this life and the next if I am not here?”     Read More...

Phantom

by Susan Kay

-- Follow the lonely struggle of  the Phantom of the Opera from birth to  love to madness and death.  Read the reviews.  A bestselling novel that keeps on going...

A Sore Sight for Carefree Eyes

Fort Lauderdale, August 2010:  Most people sympathize with the victims of horrendous natural disasters. They send money, bedding, clothing, food, and if they’re not much better off themselves, their good wishes and lots of prayers. Not many have skills they can use to help in meaningful ways. Angela Salerno, however, has the expertise and took a month out of her busy life to help the victims of Haiti with her hands-on experience. People like Angie are rare and wonderful, and a blessing to our world. Deborah Salerno, author of Through My Eyes, wrote her daughter’s account of the earthquake’s devastating aftermath, with scores of poignant pictures to bring home the message that help is still needed for these valiant survivors.  Read More...

Misery Loves Company

Fort Lauderdale, March 2010: An intelligent ghost story is the way first time author, Lawrence Edwards, likes to refer to his premier novel, but it could just as easily be thought of as a psychological thriller. It’s a macabre tale of an army of murderous corpses who’ve declared war on the living. To do this, they’ve managed to secretly infiltrate the human race by posing as their former selves for the purpose of recruiting more and more new followers. Unfortunately, for these unsuspecting victims, it means suffering one of the most feared fates imaginable…Here’s a hint: Remember the story of the Pied Piper? Well, this time, it’s a hell of a lot more perverse and infinitely more deadly.      Read more...

 In the Path of Evil

Fort Lauderdale, May 2010: Angels/Demons… Heaven/Hell…Good/Evil…Everything is not always so black and white. While positive forces work to counteract those of negative, humankind maintains a status quo. But what if Evil begins to overtake Good? What if the world itself must rely on mere mortals, fragile, vulnerable beings full of doubt and weakness, who may lack the strength and conviction to bring Evil down? In his new book, If I Should Die Before I Wake: A Raymond Mallard Mystery, author Jay LeVelle Ingram addresses that alarming dilemma. A must read!

Detective Raymond Mallard doesn’t believe in angels or demons. A disillusioned police officer still healing from the death of a partner, he is uncertain about his future on the job, and the last thing he wants to do is investigate a serial killer. He is forced to do just that, however, when the wife of a fellow officer is found dead, posed like a work of classical art.  Read more..

Fighting the Good Fight

Fort Lauderdale, May 2010:  Since the early 1730s, the world has known the word Vampire, although the mythology of these undead creatures started millennia earlier. And Vampires, of course, come with their own archenemies, relentless and noble vampire slayers. In his new book, Sword of the Undead, author Steven Fujita brings us an innovative kind of Vampire…a Samurai Lord and his nemesis, a Daimyo of historical fact, the slayer Yagyu Jubei. A new weave to an old favorite – to the delight of all horror fans!

In 1872, Jonathan Harker travels to Japan to inform Lord Hidetora Kageura that the castle the lord commissioned to be built in Los Angeles, California, has been completed. Leaving Harker for dead, Kageura relocates to the United States.  Meanwhile, Harker's friend, Lucy, dies from a mysterious ailment, which Dr. Van Helsing determines is a vampire's bite.  Harker, still alive, returns to the United States, but now his wife, Mina, is the vampire's target.  Read More...
