The detective’s name is Travis Dugan and he makes his first appearance in the hot new novel The Big Casino: Incident in Avalon, written by Gig Goodloe and published by Llumina Press.  Set in the 1950s, Goodloe writes his novel in the crisp, pungent style of great mystery writers of the past.  In fact, he grew up reading old detective stories and his book is both a homage to those exciting tales and a welcome addition to the genre.

Travis Dugan is the not most ambitious detective in Southern California, but the World War II veteran gets drawn to mysteries, adventures, and beautiful women almost in spite of himself.  He is a reluctant hero but nonetheless solve crimes in the tradition of Mike Hammer, Philip Marlowe, and even James Bond.

In this novel, the first of a series featuring Dugan, the PI is embroiled in a missing person’s case on the sultry island of Santa Catalina.  He is called onto the case by the Rigneys, the wealthy owners of the isle, to investigate the disappearance of the family’s heir apparent.  As he pursues this missing person’s case, Dugan finds himself followed by arms smugglers, searching for buried treasure, uncovering murders, and much more.

In fact, while this book ends with many of the mysteries solved, others are left open in a manner tailor-made for a sequel.  Goodloe’s next volume in the Travis Dugan series is to be titled The Big Gun: Return to Avalon where undoubtedly more mysterious questions will be raised and other mysterious riddles will be resolved.

About the Author:

Gig (Gregory G.) Goodloe was raised on the beaches of Southern California and his knowledge of the area is put to good use in his first Travis Dugan mystery The Big Casino: Incident in Avalon.  Goodloe, who grew up reading old-fashioned mysteries, now resides in Lake Nacimiento in Central California where he is married with two sons.  He served with the United States Coast Guard in Antarctica before graduating from Cal State Long Beach in Radio/TV/Film Production.  He is working on his second Travis Dugan mystery to be titled The Big Gun: Return to Avalon.
