Authors Dr. Robert Rand and Maida Sussman provide both the scientific background and fast-paced thrills that make The Cure work on many levels.  Dr. Rand is an award-winning neurosurgeon who has invented multiple surgical techniques and instruments and has received numerous awards for his medical achievements.  Maida Sussman worked with Dr. Rand at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California, and has extensive experience translating medical themes into fictional storytelling.

About the Authors:

 

Robert W. Rand, PhD, MD, is an accomplished neurosurgeon.  He is also a UCLA professor of Neurosurgery and a staff member at multiple hospitals in the Southern California area.  Dr. Rand has invented numerous surgical instruments and techniques, conducted national clinical cancer research trials, and published numerous neurological textbooks and scientific articles.  He has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International College of Surgeons and the UCLA Distinguished Service Award, among other honors.

 

Maida Sussman has a background in filmmaking and her cinematography career has taken her all over the world including Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. A resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, she also designs software programs.
