 That Are Entertaining and Educational

Tamarac, FL – Studies show that children in the United States are falling behind those from other countries in the subject of science.  Author Geeta Pati’s illustrated series of books for youngsters titled Finny’s Voyage through the Universe provides science lessons that are both entertaining and educational.  Published by Llumina Press, her books about astronomy and outer space are exciting adventure stories that are also filled with scientific facts and lessons.

“From my observations…I found that children generally avoid reading pure science books because they appear boring and monotonous,” writes Pati.  “On the other hand, they love to read story books.  Considering these facts, I wrote these space science books explaining science through interesting fictional stories, so that children will read them on their own as story books and simultaneously learn.”

The latest two titles in the series are Volume II: Nebula, Supernova, Open Star Cluster and Volume III: Globular Cluster, Neutron Star, and Black Hole.

In her books, Finny, a young fish from Earth, travels through the galaxies with Mr. Guru, a supercomputer, who educates him about outer space. Their adventures lead them in Volume II to Mr. Megha, an awe-inspiring cloud-figure who tells them how stars are made and, in Volume III, to a black hole that has no guilt about sucking others into his nothingness.

Pati’s volumes cover many important scientific topics including cosmic rays, spiral galaxies, supernovas, pulsars, magnetic fields, and others. In her stories these space objects are often personified to make the scientific concepts more entertaining and easier to understand.

The 2004 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, Dr. Frank Wilczek, writes: “Science begins in wonder and curiosity.  Geeta Pati’s imaginative rendering of the strange world revealed by modern physics brings it to life for young people.”

With her enthusiasm for both writing and education, it could be that Geeta Pati is doing for children and science what J.K. Rowling did for children and fantasy: opening up a fascinating new world of adventure and knowledge that will keep them turning pages through many volumes.

“I did many years of research and met with many well known scientists from institutions to gather facts for the books,” writes Pati.  “I hope they will be fun reading and enriching for children and young adults.”
