FORT LAUDERDALE, FEBRUARY 2006: In this mad, mad world, terrorism has become an abhorrent, yet increasingly common fact of life and every sane person worries about the next target. Yet, as with the Cold War, ultimately we must find some way to relieve our fear. In A Roar in the East, author Steven Lusk takes a lighthearted look at US intelligence's war on terror. Along the way he plays with political correctness, stereotyping and ham-fisted spies.
Terrorists plague the world and the Middle East is in turmoil. The dastardly villain, Abou al Raini, might be in the midst of developing a new and dangerous weapon that has the United States worried. The ultra-secret Department of Reconnaissance and Knowledge (DORK) has dispatched its best, or rather, its only available secret agent to stop al Raini. Ames Blond, a mediocre spy at best, heads for Iraq to find al Raini and foil his nefarious plan. With a little help, and a lot of luck, Ames bumbles his way around Iraq; braving bad weather, camel and sheep dung, terrible food and a cranky Ford Pinto while trying to locate al Raini’s base of operation.
The hero of A Roar in the East, Ames Blond, is a latter day James Bond without the girl, Eddie Murphy without the panache and John Wayne without the walk. He is ably assisted by General “Tenstars” Manystars, the head DORK; eccentric R, who invents useless gadgets to support the field agents, and Hassim, the CIA wannabe from New Jersey who makes a living selling junk jewelry and camel dung.
About the Author: Steven Lusk, spent almost thirty years traveling around the world at government expense prior to retiring from the US Armed Forces. From the jungles of Vietnam and Guatemala to the sand dunes of the Middle East and the crab-infested terrain of Cuba, Steve has met a large number of exotic, strange and sometimes downright-weird people; eaten their food, drank their beer and chased their girls. In A Roar in The East Steve draws upon those experiences to create a hilarious and totally inappropriate reading experience. Steve lives in beautiful East Tennessee with his wife, two kids and two cats.
