FORT LAUDERDALE, JULY 2005:  Nuns are born and not made. It may take some potential nuns a long time to hear their Calling, as is the case of one 70 year-old widow, mother, and grandmother in Wisconsin, who is taking her final vows of poverty, chastity and obedience this week. With other women the Call comes early on, but now and then it does not last….

The betrayal of a child. A devastated family. The discovery of a holy mercy. The ascension to communion.  The descent into faithlessness. A turned-away God. 

Anna Miller, on the verge of her marriage, cannot escape who she once was. More importantly, the former Catholic nun has lost the very reasons why she abandoned all that was once so supremely sacred to her. The vast rift between her present and absent memories spans a search through three decades, from the 1930s to the 1950s, in the nestled town of White Ridge, Vermont. 

Anna must stumble through her former world of grace in her new and questionable role as the fiancée to a mortal man, Steven. Through glimpses of those things that persist in remaining, a portrait of her sorrowful fall develops. Somewhere between the lonely road to salvation and the crowded path to damnation lies the truth for one haunted soul. 

Eventually, the final decision to choose God or a mortal man must be made, once again . . . .
