AWARD-WINNING ASHEVILLE POET, LIZA SISK, PUBLISHES NEW BOOK OF POEMS TITLED “CONDOMINIUMS, CONCH SHELLS AND CONSCIOUSNESS

In This Collection, Sisk Deliberately Orders Her Poems to Simulate Disorder

Award-winning Asheville poet Liza Sisk has just published her new book of poems titled “Condominiums, Conch Shells and Consciousness” with Llumina Press.  In this new collection, Sisk, who was a finalist for the North Carolina Poetry Society’s 2005 Poet Laureate Award, deliberately orders her poems to simulate disorder.

Her poems cover an eclectic and extraordinary range of subject matter including nature, love, metaphysics, and travel. Her stylistic range is equally wide-ranging and she moves fluidly and with great skill between free verse, sonnets, ballads and other poetic forms.  This collection includes narratives, satires, parodies, and descriptive poems.

Sisk, who has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin, has worked in marketing communications with a variety of Fortune 100 companies. Her poems have appeared in many literary publications including “Puerto Del Sol,” “Carquinez Poetry Review,” and “Hawaii Review.”  She is also the author of two upcoming books: “The Elements of Structure: The Step Beyond Style” and “On Being Alive.”

In her concluding poem, titled “Condominiums and Consciousness,” Sisk suggests that stream of consciousness is an ordered fractal.  This leaves readers to wonder whether the collection’s seeming disorder is misleading or whether it actually has a secret and mind-expanding pattern.
