LEFT BEHIND VS. UNDISCOVERED: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
FORT LAUDERDALE, MAY 2005: A big difference, a difference big and important enough for Wayne Arnold to write a book about. A book that advocates excavating the gifts within us at any age is what you’ll find in his radical, yet simple thesis, No Child Undiscovered. Not some new mix on edu-babble that advances the lock-step cattle march toward promotion that the No Child Left Behind bureaucrats offer as an educational panacea; but rather, one that empowers each individual to maximize their potential, by mining their gifts, so they can renegotiate their positions in a more global playground, as contributors as well as consumers. A plan that replenishes individuals so that they can make a difference in their own lives, as well as in the greater, global world.
No Child Undiscovered reveals the intimate connection between mind-body medicine and education, exactly what parents and teachers need to know. It promotes self-discovery programs for schools that empower students toward self-esteem and personal responsibility, a creative alternative to No Child Left Behind. When children (and adults) learn to tap into their potential, learning happens. No Child Undiscovered’s mind-body approach makes it clear that a federal, centralized program is counterproductive to many of the goals that people have for their children. Passing laws do not make better students nor does it help to develop their natural curiousity and creativity. Arnold’s techniques allow learners to harness their subconscious and use it as a learning enabler. Through the steps of self-inquiry children learn that they already are self-empowered and self-directed. Arnold’s techniques focus on the positives of learning, rather than on the negative, black-and-white emphasis on failure that the No Child Left Behind mandate incorporates between its lines.
