Crossfire

Caught inside the crossfire

In between what’s right and wrong

I’ve been too many places where

I know I don’t belong

I guess everything inside of me

Got changed back in the war

I suppose I was confused about

What we were fighting for

I thought to free a nation

And a people just the same

I didn’t realize it then

That it was just a game

So much for truth and honor

From our leaders like I said

As people died not knowing why

No politician bled

In their piety they question

Asking ‘where did we go wrong’

They were to blame, it was their shame

As it went on and on

It’s so easy making choices

When the fight is miles away

For them there was no sacrifice

No debt of blood to pay

My rage at their indifference

Still lives inside of me

We left those people dying

When they wanted to be free
