Fort Lauderdale, April 2007:  In the news today, it’s not uncommon to read about young women suffering a stroke, something that was fairly unusual not so long ago. It used to be that those susceptible to stroke were mostly in their ‘golden years,’ not young, vibrant, active women. In her book, Girls Only: No Strokes Allowed!, author Lisa Bernstein relays the story of her life-changing experiences with this terrible illness, and the struggle she endured to survive, and eventually, return from the brink.

Most books on strokes are filled with stories of victims in their latter years, of high blood pressure and bad cholesterol.  Girls Only: No Strokes Allowed is for young women and about the once considered rare phenomenon of Vertebral Artery Dissection--aka cerebellar infarct-- which is gradually and sadly becoming more prominent. This type of stroke affects men and women, adults and teenagers alike; after suffering a V.A.D. at the age of thirty-four, Lisa Bernstein felt compelled to share with all women, their families and caregivers the tale of the vicious attack that struck out of the blue.

About the Author

      Lisa Bernstein is an outgoing woman with a zest for life. She is also a stroke survivor. Behind her are nearly fifteen years of working in the medical field as a surgical scrub nurse, and early winnings of first, second and third place in writing and public speaking. Lisa spends her time speaking publicly for stroke awareness and is continually rebuilding and reshaping her new and exciting life. Lisa, along with her husband, resides in Texas.
