FORT LAUDERDALE, APRIL 2005: Max Freesney Pierre was born in Haiti. English is not his first language. This poetry is testimony to how far Pierre has taken his ownership of his second language. He has achieved success as a poet, a journalist, and an educator, in English, his adopted tongue. Pierre’s literary works have received the praises of scholars. His previous books, Tambours de la Melee and Fee Caraibe, met with genuine acclaim. Soul Traveler departs from his earlier works, in language and in form. Like all great poetry, Soul Traveler recreates the human experience and touches us deeply in our souls.
The common denominators: We all fall in love, hope, fear, try to find God, and make peace with our souls. Soul Traveler, with powerful words, accelerates into a universe of thoughts and emotions we all share. Poetic dreams, associations, souvenirs, emotions, and thoughts accompany you on this journey into a surreal world. You return from the tour with new eyes. Soul Traveler is an x-ray of human behavior, tender and brutal. The poems reflect the importance of diversity. They are a frontier where humans share their common reality. Soul Traveler carries you into that world, all the while holding hands with your soul.
