Unfinished Business, a Legacy of Love within a Slice of Modern
History
FORT LAUDERDALE, May
2005: It’s
1960 and the outwardly charming Larry Edwards is on a downward emotional spiral.
He’s trapped in a suffocating marriage and disillusioned by a corporate system
that fails to see beyond the color of his skin. Then, what should have been a
moment of short-lived frustration renders Larry savagely dangerous. His reaction
sets off a chain of events that creates an intriguing life journey for his
infant daughter, Regina, and seventeen year-old sister-in-law, Rosa. That
journey is full of bittersweet moments that define the essence of character and
the quality of existence for each woman. But
it’s not their journey alone.
Along the way, they encounter a cast of colorful characters who enrich,
challenge, and define the true meaning of friendship, love, commitment,
compromise, rebellion, and winning by any means necessary. Among them is the
renowned and self-absorbed African-American journalist, Carl Erickson, whose
daughter Carrie struggles against being consumed by her father’s civil rights
legacy. They join with Rosa and
Regina to form a unique family unit that serves as the anchor for each
member’s existence.
There‘s the talented and gifted Dr. Brian Greenwood, a white man from
the wrong side of the tracks, whose desperation to escape poverty blinds him to
the magic of true love. And, Benny the lawyer who wants to harness the
independent spirit of a woman who fears commitment and male domination.
There’s Robert Edwards, entrepreneur and philanthropist extraordinaire, who
struggles to forgive himself for a murder / suicide perpetrated by a brother he
turned his back on. And Precious, a victim of domestic abuse, whose psychic gift
saves everyone except herself.
Against the backdrop of Washington, D.C. politics, infidelity, vengeance,
family in-fighting, and family secrets, Unfinished Business is
an microscopically personal look at the pain inflicted on one another in the
name of love, as well as the endless joy bestowed under the same emotional
banner.
