FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LLUMINA PRESS HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR SOLDIERS AND VETERANS

FORT LAUDERDALE, MAY 2005:  Llumina Press, a pioneer in liberating the voices of everyman, has a soft spot for those in the armed forces who protect and fight for our constitutional freedoms.  From Memorial Day through the Fourth of July, Llumina is offering a special Veterans’ Publishing Package to the heroes who made it all possible.

Deborah Greenspan, publisher of Llumina Press, says, “You were there.  A participant.  At a time when there were no cameras on the spot.  Why let someone else tell your story?  Whatever your viewpoint, as an American soldier, you fought for the right to express it…and the American people want to hear about it…from you.”

Veterans and soldiers often keep their war stories to themselves.  But writing can be a cathartic experience, a creative form of therapy to clear one’s conscience, commemorate comrades, or chronicle history.  Ask our poet, Russell G. Robison, author of Delta Blue, a moving poetic account exposing the suffering of a Vietnam Vet, or Randall Juge, author of To Nam & Back: Don't Pray for Me.  Many writers have carried their military experiences into the spotlight, but a uniform does not guarantee a soldier a ticket into a traditional publishing house.  Llumina Press recognizes the voice of the soldier and wants to hand over the spotlight.

Greenspan, who started Llumina Press five years ago, is ardent about preserving these soldier stories.  She is expanding the local Llumina’s Writing Workshop series, which she implemented earlier this year to assist local senior citizens in writing their memoirs, to include veterans’ groups.  If your military group is interested in learning how to get published, contact Deborah Greenspan at (954) 726-0902, or e-mail her at deborah@llumina.com.

Whether you’re the new Joseph Heller, Norman Mailer, Stephen Ambrose, or Norman Schwarzkopf, whether you have a Catch-22 or a M.A.S.H. in mind, or whether it’s The Naked and the Dead that populate your writing, Llumina wants to publish you!

Greenspan believes that veterans’ voices should be heard and honored.  “These are the heroes who have served America during times of war and stood by their comrades while under siege, and they have important stories to be told.  Llumina has the apparatus for liberating these neglected, but vital voices, by providing the platform on which they can parade their war stories and publish the history and personal accounts of the grit and emotion that might be otherwise lost to future generations.”
