A Poet’s View

Fort Lauderdale, April 2007:  April is National Poetry Month, and as such, this is a point in time filled with lyrical beauty, heart rendering, and challenging viewpoints designed to intrigue the soul. There aren’t many who do poetry as much justice as Neferti-ti Pranya Hamza in her new book, Trilogy: The Love Generations.

Poetry is not just an expression of feelings; it is a form of art which can also illuminate the wider world. Trilogy is a book of loss, of political maturity, and of one woman’s broadening role as a black woman in America. Neferti-ti recently lost her grandmother, to whom she was very close. So many of the poems describe her loss in detail, and highlight her memories which are serious as well as playful. Neferti-ti examines subjects from the President of the United States to the Pastor of her Church.

About the Author:

Neferti-ti Pranya Hamza is the only child of Denise Love. She was raised by her mother who worked very hard to provide for her daughter’s needs. Neferti-ti's mother, Denise Love, also writes poetry, and music as well. It is Neferti-ti's hope that in the near future they will write a song or a poem together.

Neferti-ti resides in Chicago where she is currently working on her third book of poetry. She works full time during the day and attends college part-time at night. Her goal after writing three books of poetry is to begin writing children’s books.
