FORT LAUDERDALE, NOVEMBER 2005:  The Art of Burlesque is in the midst of a colossal comeback, according to featured articles in many popular magazines and by the number of new clubs being launched in New York and Los Angeles. Additionally, auditions are being held for a new Burlesque Troupe this week in LA, while an eye-popping, pastied and tasseled group of striptease artists are heading to a convention in San Francisco at the month's end. Burlesque's Heyday may still be in its future.

Yes, Burlesque theatre is enjoying a popular revival across North America, and Hal Sisson rides the crest of that growing wave with Sorry ’bout That, an affectionate tribute to his twenty years of producing and performing in Western Canada’s longest-running burlesque revue. With his encyclopedic memory for jokes and his love of the craft of comedy, Sisson steals the show with this hilarious compilation of songs, gags, naughty poetry, and fast-paced skits.

No arena of human activity is spared and no apology actually intended as Sisson pokes fun at the quirks and pretensions of magicians, lawyers, preachers, medics, psychics, and salesmen. Sisson’s book includes a salute to the greats of burlesque, British music hall, and vaudeville, and reminiscences of performers who have trod the stage with him, furnished him with lively material, or shared the privilege of a life spent leading an audience to laughter.

About the Author 

Hal Sisson—www.halsisson.ca—is a reformed lawyer and resident of Victoria, British Columbia. His eight published books include the perennially popular short story collection Coots, Codgers and Curmudgeons, and a trilogy of novels featuring sleuthing seniors Phil Figgwiggin and Mike Fowler. Sisson, who was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, worked as a reporter for the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, then ran a law practice for thirty years in Alberta’s Peace River region. His goal is “to write more fiction before bucket-kicking time.”
