After stealing her mother's will and finding it not in her favor, a sister launches a sadistic attack that will eventually overwhelm her brother, the rightful heir, leaving him in total moral and financial ruin. The story details the day-by-day account of the pain and suffering the brother endures after being evicted from the family home and finding himself homeless in the Sudbury area of Northern Ontario during one of the coldest winters on record. With little food, practically no heat, and only snow for water, he approaches the edge of death itself. In trying to regain a sense of stability, he suffers through embarrassment, humiliation, and the dangerous world of drugs, eventually finding himself 2,300 miles from the home he once knew.  Desperate To Survive is a powerful story with a lesson that can teach us how to avoid family disaster when making a will.

 As Gordon, himself, says: “I always thought that my sister and I were responsible adult children who respected each other and would support one another in times of need. Well, that might be true, but when money is involved, it can bring out the worst in a person.”

 Gordon Baker was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from college he worked for seven years in the electrical industry before turning to self-employment in 1982. A successful entrepreneur for many years before the events of this story transformed his life, Mr. Baker currently lives in Penticton, British Columbia. Daily recurring nightmares drove him to write this story and its almost-completed sequel, Desperate to Survive, Part 2, in hopes that they will serve as potent testaments and warnings to what can happen to any of us if we are not prepared.
