Surrender
Never learned how to surrender
As I grew to be a man
It was a concept foreign
That I did not understand
I never learned to let it pass
Or turn and walk away
You fight until the end
No matter what, my Dad would say
I thought ‘not one step back’
Was how to face this life you see
But those who will not yield
Are often driven to their knee
Yet once while in a storm
I watched a mighty Oak defy
The power of its passage
As it swayed against the sky
I saw the branches shaking
As they twisted in the wind
But the only branches broken
We're the ones that would not bend
