Faces

Tears came again this morning,
There was nothing I could do.
As the faces drifted past my eyes
Of all of them so true.

It’s always hard to think of them,
The ones who gave their all.
I still can hear their laughter,
I still can see them fall.

What cause begat their ending?
What truth required their day?
What is it deep inside of us?
That makes us walk that way.

In the land of many questions,
There are answers I can’t find.
Too often I seek shelter,
From this sadness in my mind.

I’m told that it’s our nature
And that war will never cease
But when I die, indeed will I
At last go home to peace.
